Gabon’s Oil and Gaz unveils post COVID 19 revival plan

The Minister of Oil, Gas and Mines, Vincent de Paul Massassa, presented on September 29 to Prime Minister Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda the contributions his department intends to make in the context of the revival of the Gabonese economy.

Vincent de Paul Massassa presented to the Prime Minister, during the Ministerial Cabinet Council on September 29, the roadmap of his department as part of the strategy to revive the economy.

The purpose of this working session was to identify the potential contributions of the Oil, Gas and Mining sectors in this endeavor to revive the economy. According to Vincent de Paul Massassa, these sectors contribute more than 65% to the GDP and their involvement in the recovery of the economy is strongly expected by the highest authorities.

“We took this opportunity to talk about the enthusiasm of operators in the sector before the declaration of the Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, the adoption of the new Petroleum Code aroused a certain interest in our sedimentary basin. The resumption of discussions, however, depends on the evolution of the epidemic. We will resume discussions with operators, hoping that those who have expressed their interest will still be there, ”he said.

For the moment, the mining sector in Gabon is still mainly centered on the exploitation of manganese. As for other natural resources, they are not yet exploited, with the exception of gold. According to the Prime Minister’s office, “mines should represent a much higher share in the GDP within 15 to 20 years than theirs today”.

It should be noted that this working session took place in the presence of several other members of the government including the Minister of Economy and Recovery, Jean Marie Ogadanga, the Minister of Budget, Sosthène Ossoungou Ndibangoye and the Minister of Promotion investments, Carmen Ndaot.
