Thierry Prosper Mboutsou in particular invited young people to get into the cultivation of coffee and cocoa, in particular through the creation of cooperatives for the development of the sector.

The coffee-cocoa plantations located a few kilometers from Bitam, in Woleu-Ntem, recently received a visit from the director general of the Caisse de stabilization et de rééquation (CAISAB). Thierry Prosper Mboutsou reiterated his ambition to boost production in the sector, in particular through the creation of agricultural cooperatives by young people.

“We are talking about going wherever the planters are. But above all, to bring young people back to the culture of coffee and cocoa. Because it is with them that we will develop the sector. We continue to say that planters need to come together to benefit from our help. When we ask the planters to come together, behind there is training that will be provided for the proper functioning of cooperatives, ”Thierry Prosper Mboutsou said.

In terms of training, Caistab is already well advanced with the Young Coffee-Cocoa Entrepreneurs program (JECCA), which aims to sustainably revive the coffee-cocoa sector in rural areas through the promotion of youth entrepreneurship. More than 100 young people have already been reached by the program. The role of Caistab is to buy back the crops from the growers as soon as possible, in order to develop the coffee-cocoa sector. In poor shape for several years, the activity has been further impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
