Gabon seals Agreement with UBA to support Industrial actors

In order to support small and medium-sized national industries, the transitional government, through the Ministry of Industry, signed this week an agreement with the pan-African banking establishment UBA, which has undertaken to create a window dedicated to Gabonese industrialists.

In Gabon, small and medium-sized industries (SMIs) should now be better supported. At least, this is what the many players in this developing sector hope, but within which several shortcomings are decried. Also, the signing on Wednesday, July 31, of an agreement between the supervisory ministry and the Gabonese subsidiary of United Bank for Africa (UBA) already appears to be a good start, a great promise for the future.

At the Ministry of Industry, it is assured, in any case, that this agreement with the pan-African banking establishment is an initiative in support of Gabonese industrialists. “This partnership aims to create a counter dedicated to industrialists, aiming to support them in their dealings with banks for credit applications and other banking operations. This is a new tool intended to encourage the creation and development of entrepreneurship, with the ambition of bringing out a class of Gabonese reference entrepreneurs” , specifies the administration headed by François Mbongo Rafemo Bourdette.

This signature comes mainly from the main recommendations of the very first Forum on the financing of industries held in Libreville on March 21 and 22, 2024. Recommendations which aim in particular to “create an environment favorable to the emergence of a solid national industrial fabric” . Therefore, the Ministry of Industry expects its new partner to adopt “a proactive and diligent approach to support the development of industrialists” .
