Gabon adopts new Management code for Water and Energy

The Minister of State in charge of Energy and Hydraulic Resources, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, is hard at work to bring about the reforms initiated by the government in order to resolve the problem of water stress that Gabonese live. On February 8, he chaired a new meeting of stakeholders in the development of the Electricity and Water Codes.

The Minister of State in charge of Energy and Hydraulic Resources, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, and his delegate, Séverin Mayounou, had a working session with the stakeholders in the development of the Codes relating to water and electricity sectors.

Objective: to refine these texts to better govern the production, transport and marketing of water and electricity in the country. “For more than two days, representatives of several ministerial departments, supervised entities, independent bodies, consumer associations and certain public authorities will make the final contributions to these two texts, initiated by the Ministry of Energy. and Hydraulic Resources and which will have taken several months before this decisive step ”, explained the Minister of Energy and Hydraulic Resources.

According to Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, it is a question of “providing our country with reference texts, adapted to our economic and social environment, such is the main stake underlying this work, which is part of the vast reform. of the water and electricity sectors, decided by the President of the Republic, Head of State, His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba ”.

These Codes aim in particular to make SEEG a flagship of the national economy; an operator capable of exporting its expertise to other countries. If the initial timetable is respected, these texts should be presented to the Council of Ministers for examination before transmission to Parliament during the March session.
