ECCAS members map out priorities for Agricultural sector

The Agriculture Ministers of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) exchanged by vision conference on October 20. This meeting chaired by Biendi Maganga Moussavou, aimed to define the priorities of the ECCAS zone and adopt a common position at the 31st FAO conference, scheduled for October 26-28

As a prelude to the 31st Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Agriculture Ministers of the Economic Community of Central African States ECCAS met on October 20 , by conference vision.

The objective of the consultation was to “take stock of the implementation of the priorities adopted at the 30th session, and adopt the proposals for priorities of the ECCAS zone in terms of the development of Agriculture, Livestock and fishing ”, explained Biendi Maganga Moussavou.

This meeting, said the Gabonese Minister in charge of Agriculture, will allow the harmonization and adoption of a common position to be defended at the 31st FAO conference, scheduled for October 26-28. According to Biendi Maganga Moussavou, these actions to prioritize stem from the deep institutional reform carried out within ECCAS in Ndjamena, Chad, in 2015, in order to meet the challenges of the day and meet the demands of the moment.

This reform made it possible to endow the ECCAS with an “executive with a renovated architecture, thanks to the adoption, at the extraordinary summit in Libreville, on December 18, 2019, of a revised treaty, leading to the replacement of the general secretariat of the organization by a commission whose members were all sworn in on August 31, 2020 in Libreville, ”said Biendi Maganga Moussavou. The ECCAS Commission is headed by Angolan Gilberto Da Piedade Verissimo.
