The Autonomous Port of Douala (PAD) and the Chamber of Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock and Forestry (CAPEF) are intensifying their cooperation to modernize Cameroon’s port infrastructure. This collaboration mainly targets two major projects: the construction of a fishing quay at the Port of Limbe and the development of a central warehouse for the storage of export products at the Port of Douala-Bonabéri. These initiatives are part of a global strategy to develop the country’s port infrastructure.
On Friday, September 6, 2024, Cyrus NGO’O, Director General of PAD, received a joint delegation from INK BANK and CAPEF in the conference room of PAD headquarters in Douala. During this meeting, INK BANK proposed a line of credit of 400 million euros (approximately 262.382 billion FCFA) to support the implementation of these projects. According to a note from PAD, INK BANK will finance 95% of the costs, while the remaining 5% will be borne by the borrower.
The Autonomous Port of Limbe (PAL), reorganized in May 2020, benefits from special attention from the Cameroonian government. Since February 2022, NDIVE MOLUNGU Thomas, former Technical Advisor No. 3 at the PAD and former Financial Director of the RTC, has been leading the operations of the PAL. Under his leadership, a process of empowerment of this port platform was launched. On August 16, 2022, an order was issued, declaring of public utility the work of delimitation and securing of sites for the development of port activities in Limbe.
These projects, led by PAD, CAPEF and their partners, mark a new era for Cameroonian port infrastructure, with the ambition of boosting the fishing and international trade sectors.
