Coronavirus provides opportunity to boost local products in Cameroon despite inherent shocks

Despite the pain, the risks, the loss of human life and materials since the arrival of COVID-19; the Cameroonian entrepreneurs can seize the opportunity to boost the economy and make real gains from the situation. This is even more telling with the border closure of many countries.

The pandemic certainly takes its toll, slows down many sectors of activity, even forces some companies to close the doors. But it is also an opportunity for some local entrepreneurs to challenge themselves. Many have set out to boost their production… the food industry ranks among the sectors most in demand.

The production of hand sanitizers is gaining steam in the country as local entrepreneurs challenge themselves. As one of the innovations presented by Made in Cameroon in recent days, the product is practical and easy to use. In addition, it is stable and avoids manual contact with its constituents. It will also be useful during the post-pandemic period.

Cosmetics are not to be outdone, according to the newspaper. The production of antiseptic soaps and gels made from aloe Vera, neem oil, shea, spirulina and turmeric has tripled. Other inspired entrepreneurs have even gone into the production of face masks.

With over 500 confirmed cases of Covid-19, there is a mad rush for face mask seen as a preventive kit against the pandemic. The Minister of Public Health has now asked local producers to step production of this kit to avoid any scarcity and limit importation.

“Now that we all have to wear the masks, we wonder where we are going to take them from. And we have the solution locally. The Minister of Industries and I want to encourage companies to manufacture the masks in sufficient quantities for the Cameroonians to benefit from them.” Dr Manaouda Malachie revealed. Andela Carine, President of the Association of Ingenious Entrepreneurs of Africa (ASENIA) believes that, local entrepreneurs have the chance to keep the country’s economy afloat if they do not let their passion down. “Behind every difficulty there are opportunities. The Made in Cameroon entrepreneur should not take Covid-19 as a justification for slackening activities. On the contrary, it’s time to double your efforts,” she spells out.
