Congo and the U.S.A map out new Oil and Gas projects

Strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries was the focus of a meeting held on November 25 in Brazzaville between the Minister of Hydrocarbons, Bruno Jean Richard Itoua, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in the Republic of Congo, Amanda Jacobsen. She expressed the American desire to increase investment in the hydrocarbon sector in Congo.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Amanda Jacobsen, meeting with the Minister of Hydrocarbons for the first time, emphasized the “productive” nature of the discussion and the importance of strengthening this existing partnership. American oil and energy companies have been present in the Congo for many years and have helped shape a portion of the national energy landscape. This long-standing cooperation, according to the American diplomat, provides a solid foundation for attracting new investments.

This exchange follows a meeting last September between President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, the governor of Oklahoma, and representatives of Continental Resources, an American oil company based in Oklahoma City. At that meeting, the Congolese head of state expressed his desire to attract more American capital to the oil and energy sector. ” This objective is shared ,” stated Amanda Jacobsen, emphasizing the convergence of economic interests between the two countries. The United States, she said, wants to see more American companies involved in the Congo’s energy development.

The meeting with the Minister of Hydrocarbons thus marks a new step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation, in a context where Brazzaville seeks to diversify its partners and attract new investments to boost its energy sector.
