Taking advantage of the activities of the World Coffee and Cocoa Day celebrated on October 1 of each year, the officials of the Stabilization and Equalization Fund (Caistab), at the head of which the Director General, Thierry Prosper Mboutsou, accompanied by the administrative authorities of the province of Woleu-Ntem among which the governor, Jules Djeki, the mayor of the municipality of Oyem, Christian Abessolo Menguey, launched on October 8, on behalf of President Ali Bongo Ondimba, the 2020-2021 cocoa campaign.
The operation consisted of the purchase of cocoa and coffee produced by the local populations. The price of the kilogram oscillating between 400 and 1000 CFA francs. In this particular context marked by the Covid-19, the cocoa campaign aims to facilitate and above all guarantee the buyback of all the coffee and cocoa productions grown by national planters.
Despite the gravity of the pandemic, the director general of Caistab noted the good results obtained during the operation of phytosanitary treatment of the coffee and cocoa plantations. Started in the department of Woleu, the expectations of this operation were initially evaluated on 400 hectares of plantations but it was spread over 700 hectares.
Thierry Prosper Mboutsou praised the involvement of local populations who responded favorably to the vision of the highest authorities because, “this campaign will allow small economic units such as planters to sell their raw material and set the national economy in motion. “.
In terms of prices set for this season, the boss of Caistab presented the ministerial decree setting the purchase prices per kilogram of coffee and cocoa at the planter stage. For this campaign, throughout the national territory, the prices are as follows: for field-side cocoa at grade 1 at 1,000 CFA francs / Kg, grade 2 at 800 CFA francs / Kg and Gum cocoa at 450 CFA francs / Kg . The coffee-cockles will be sold at 600 CFA francs / Kg and the washed coffee at 800 CFA francs / Kg.
