Cameroon maintains Trade with CEMAC neighbours despite anti Covid-19 Measures

Cameroon has decided to maintain trade with Chad and the Central African Republic despite taking measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus. This follows a readjustments of the anti Covid 19 master plan taken by the Prime Minister, Head of Government.

The country had initially closed all its borders on Tuesday March 17, 2020. Amongst them,  the closure of land, air and sea borders, the suspension of international passenger flights. However, ships carrying consumer products and essential goods are allowed to stopover for a limited period. But Government retracted  a day latter following instructions from the Head of State, Paul Biya.

Chad and the Central African Republic are land locked countries relying mainly on Cameroon for the supply of their goods and services. The President of the CEMAC Commission, Daniel Ona Ondo has called on members states of CEMAC  to work in unison to beat the virus. In a statement this week, the Commission chair says, “In this regard, the CEMAC Commission and the ministerial decision-making bodies of the Economic Union of Central Africa, the Central African Monetary Union and the Steering Committee of the CEMAC economic reform programme are asked to propose, as quickly as possible, appropriate solutions to avoid the short, medium and long term effects of this exogenous shock.”
