Axelle Saint-Cirel, a 28-year-old mezzo-soprano, made a significant impact at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics by delivering a reimagined version of La Marseillaise from the rooftop of the Grand Palais. Dressed in a gown reflecting the colors of the French flag, she enthralled the audience, including President Emmanuel Macron.

Axelle began her musical training at a conservatory at a very young age. After spending part of her childhood in Malaysia, she returned to France to join the Montbéliard Conservatory. It was during a tour in China with the choir that she decided to pursue music as a career.

She continued her musical journey at the Pôle Supérieur de Boulogne-Billancourt in 2017, and later at the Superior Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris in 2019. Axelle’s repertoire extends beyond lyrical singing, encompassing jazz and musical theater as well.

In 2023, Axelle won the Generation Opera prize at the Marmande Lyric Nights competition and stood out at the fifth edition of the Overseas Voices competition at the Bastille Opera. These victories spotlighted this talented artist, born in Île-de-France to two Guadeloupean parents.

Axelle Saint-Cirel joined other cultural figures, including Lady Gaga and Aya Nakamura, to animate the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her performance will be etched in memory as a standout moment of the ceremony.
