The Chadian Government intends to set up a Food Emergency plan as part of the fight against the coronavirus. The Monitoring and Health security cell held a meeting today with the Rural Development Commission of the National Assembly, some members of the Government and sub-regulatory bodies concerned with the food question.
According to the Presidency, “the results of the past agricultural season, the occurrence of Covid-19 and the consequences thereof, added to the rapidly approaching period of Ramadan raises fears of difficult times.”
The Government has decided to consider taking the food aspect into account in the accompanying measures. That is why it has associated the ministerial departments concerned, the supervising bodies and the National Assembly with the reflection.
A team set up will submit in the coming days a technical proposal comprising all the main articulations necessary for State intervention for the benefit of households, according to the Presidency.

Minister of State Kalzeubé Pahimi Deubet suggested that the plan be moved quickly, adding that the food question will constitute the cornerstone of the response mechanism against the Coronavirus and its after-effects.
Once developed, consolidated and adopted, the food emergency plan should enable the State to mobilize the means necessary to bring food aid to the populations.
