European Union and Gabon seal 200 million FCFA to tackle COVID 19 induced economic shocks

The European Union (EU) is providing 200 million CFA francs to help Gabon in its response against Covid-19. This envelope will allow the country to buy equipment, including personal protective equipment, to fight the terrible pandemic.

The national response to Covid-19 was at the center of discussions between the Minister of Health and the European Union (EU) ambassador to Gabon on November 5 in Libreville. Rosario Bento Pais discussed with Guy-Patrick Obiang the terms of payment of the contribution of 200 million CFA francs, provided by the voluntary association of European States to help Gabon fight against Covid-19.

An envelope intended for the purchase of medical equipment, in particular personal protection. On behalf of the European institution, Rosario Bento Pais sent its warm congratulations and encouragement to the government for its “rational management of the health crisis based on an effective and coherent strategy”.

To which Guy-Patrick Obiang replied that “Gabon’s success in this crisis results from the leadership of the President of the Republic Ali Bongo, who has taken courageous measures to ensure the protection of the population”. In addition, the Minister of Health told his host that in addition to personal protective equipment, “capacity building for hospital staff and monitoring and evaluation in health regions are priorities for our ministerial department”.
