IPAVIC fights Covid 19 in Cameroon through good nutrition

Poultry farmers in Cameroon are contributing their quota to the fight against the coronavirus through adequate nutrition. With the support of the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industry, the Cameroon Poultry Interprofession Association IPAVIC is putting at the disposal of the public quality poultry products for consumption during this partial confinement period in Cameroon.

According to the Director General Francois Djonou, “chicken (white meat) and eggs are available in huge quantities in markets, super markets, cold stores and other commercial spaces at affordable prices.”

IPAVIC strongly believes that it can’t be indifferent at this period where Covid-19 has imposed on Cameroonians to have proper nutrition to build their immune systems. Boosting the body’s anti bodies goes through proper feeding and eating chicken and eggs can do much good to the body.

 Medics say that, Eggs contain several vitamins and minerals that are essential parts of a healthful diet. The vitamin A, vitamin B-12, and selenium in eggs are key to keeping the immune system healthy. Eggs are also a source of vitamins A, B, E, and K. Egg white and yolk are both rich sources of protein. Around 12.6% of the edible part of an egg is protein. Chicken (white meat) also contain low fat  proteins necessary for muscle growth and development.

This explains why IPAVIC is taking the initiative to reduce the prices poultry products. Djonou reveals that, “a large chicken usually sold for about 4000 FCFA now stands at 2500 FCFA.” CEMAC ECO FINANCE also observed that a tray of eggs sold at 2000 now cost between 1500 and 1800 FCFA. Since its creation in 2006, IPAVIC has been a leading player in the poultry sector in Cameroon. Over the years, it has empowered poultry farmers with skills and i
