The water and electricity sectors were at the heart of a working session organized on October 18 at the Prime Minister’s office. With the minister in charge of these sectors, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, and the members of the government concerned, it was a question of examining solutions that could make it possible to improve the water and electricity supply.
There is an urgent need to finalize all the files relating to the improvement of the water and electricity supply to households and industries in the country. This is what emerges from the meeting initiated on November 18 by the Prime Minister, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda, within the framework of the Cabinet Council dedicated to these two sectors.

By bringing together around the same table the Minister of State in charge of Water and Electricity, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze and several other members of the government involved in these files, the head of government wants to find appropriate solutions, given the deficits observed in these two sectors across the country.
“With the participation of the Minister in charge of Public – Private Partnerships, and the collaboration of the Gabonese Strategic Investment Fund (FGIS), important files for the development of electrical energy production facilities were presented. I was also able to present the various projects calling for intelligent synergies between the Heritage Company and the Gabon Water and Energy Company (SEEG) “, said Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze.
According to the latter, it mainly concerned, in this context, files relating to the extension work of the Cap Lopez thermal power plant, the improvement of the supply capacities of the hydroelectric dam of Grand Poubara and the Ntoum 7 project. “The finalization of these three projects should make it possible to increase our production capacities and improve our energy supply in Port-Gentil and Franceville, while providing a sustainable solution for the drinking water supply of Grand-Libreville” , he continued.
According to the Prime Minister’s office, from 2009 to 2016, water production rose from 81 million to 99 million m3. This resulted in a significant increase in the number of subscribers, from 130,000 to 165,000, an increase of 26%. Electricity production almost doubled from 369 MW to 611 MW. The number of subscribers rose from 216,000 to 280,500, an increase of 30%. It takes a strategic approach to meet ever-growing demand.
The Minister in charge of Water and Electricity affirms that a timetable for the effective implementation of the announced projects will be presented and submitted to the Prime Minister in the coming days for validation. “Getting out of the announcement effects and presenting the results, this is the credo on which the President of the Republic, Head of State, His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba has engaged us and that we are working to follow, with the participation and the collaboration of all players in the sector, ”said Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze.
