Debtors could no longer contract loans in CEMAC from Gabon’s Development Bank

The liquidator of the Gabonese Development Bank (BGD) urged the bank’s debtors to come to him as soon as possible. If they do not, they run the risk of no longer claiming a loan from any other banking establishment in the Cemac zone, warned Richard Lariot Ombeny.

Exasperated by the reluctance of its debtors to approach it, the Gabonese Development Bank (BGD) will use great resources. The liquidator of the banking establishment invited the concerned, in a press release published on November 2, to present themselves to the BGD as soon as possible, “at the risk of having their names still registered in the central risk management office with the consequence of l ‘impossibility of claiming a loan in any other banking establishment in the sub-region ”.

Richard Lariot Ombeny has therefore decided to brandish this ultimate threat to force debtors to come forward to “agree on new terms for discharging their debt in the books of the BGD before seizing their property”. It remains to be seen whether the liquidator of the BGD will threaten execution.

In June, Richard Lariot Ombeny had already threatened to disclose in the national press the names of the debtors of the credit institution. However, nothing has been done despite their inaction. A less discreet option than “the impossibility of claiming a loan in any other banking establishment in the sub-region” which, it seems, has been abandoned.

In addition, the liquidator said he was ready to receive “debtors whose debt was secured by a mortgage and who have not requested their release of mortgage, provided with all the supporting documents allowing confirmation of the extinction of their debt. “. However, warned Richard Lariot Ombeny, “in the absence of cooperation on their part within the timeframe of the liquidation, their property will remain mortgaged to the Land Conservation”.
