Chad begins Covid 19 food aid for NDjamena’s vulnerable

The president of the Union of National Associations (UAN), Ahmat Béchir Ahmat, launched on Thursday the distribution of food donations made up of at least 2000 bags of millet and sorghum to the vulnerable strata of the capital N’Djamena.

The launching ceremony of the operation took place in the 8th district of N’Djamena, in the presence of the representative of the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood Protection and National Solidarity.

The President of the Union, Ahmat Béchir Ahmat, declared that this donation aims to “accompany the vulnerable strata during this difficult period in the context of the fight against Covid-19”. It also aims to support households as the month of Ramadan approaches.

“Our social actions will be carried out in all 10 districts of the capital so that these vulnerable strata can benefit from food coverage,” Ahmat Béchir Ahmat said.

The Technical Director General of Social Action and National Solidarity, Tchimdouksou Tera, representing the Minister in charge of National Solidarity, described this action as patriotic. “This gesture is a spirit of national solidarity par excellence, in order to give an example to others to watch over the vulnerable strata. This policy of support for vulnerable people is part of the vision of the Head of State in favor of people vulnerable, ” Tchimdouksou Tera told the press.

From Friday, the UAN will supervise distribution operations in the districts. It also plans to distribute 1,000 bags of rice, bringing the amount of the donation to 3,000 bags.

The Minister of Women, Early Childhood Protection and National Solidarity, Dr Djalal Ardjoune Khalil, launched an appeal for solidarity between citizens. “Offering food to the needy is a sacred duty. This trial period gives us the opportunity to reflect deeply on our future and develop a morality in order to share our humanist values,” she said in an audiovisual message.

In early April, the Minister of State, Minister Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Kalzeubé Payimi Deubet, called for a general mobilization and solidarity of young people, associations and groups, in the  face of  the Covid pandemic. 19. The Head of state announced Tuesday the mobilization of a minimum envelope of 25 billion CFA francs to strengthen the stocks of the National Food Security Office (ONASA). According to Idriss Déby, a first disbursement of 5 billion CFA Francs has been made available by the Public Treasury to enable the first orders of foodstuffs to be launched.
