Chad and the WFP sign an agreement worth 36 billion FCFA to curb Food crisis

The document was initialed by the Minister of Public Health Dr Abdelmadjid Abderahim and the Deputy Country Director of the World Food Program Enrico Pausilli. The amount was mobilized by the World Bank and makes it possible to cover various interventions relating to the prevention of malnutrition, to ensure nutritional care, cash transfer, distribution of nutritional inputs and agricultural tools for production and Part of this amount will be used to stem the pastoral crisis.

In his speech, the Minister of Public Health explained that for the period from June to August, a total of 41 departments are declared in a crisis phase and Chad is facing a complex situation in terms of food security due to a combination of factors including climate shocks, conflicts and economic vulnerabilities.

Dr Abdelmadjid Abderahim stressed that to deal with this situation of food insecurity, the government and its partners have developed a national response plan to support vulnerable populations in order to mitigate the effects of shocks.

The Minister of Public Health wished to salute the commitment of the President of the Republic Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno for his leadership which made it possible to mobilize partners around this noble cause but also for the sustained attention paid to the social well-being of poor people and populations in difficult situations.

Dr Abdelmadjid Abderahim sent his sincere thanks to the World Bank for financing this important intervention which will relieve the suffering of populations affected by the nutritional crisis.
