CEMAC experts reflect on the execution of 12 integrated projects

They have been meeting since December 28, 2020 in Douala to re-examine project by project and establish a timetable for their implementation. After the mobilization of FCFA 2,492 billion from donors at the round table from November 16 to 17, 2020 in Paris, the Funding mobilization monitoring technical committee holds its first evaluation meeting in Douala.

According to Professor Michel Cyr Djiena Wembou, it is a question of matching the available funds with the promises of financing for the successful implementation of projects. For the permanent secretary of the Economic and Financial Reform Program of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (Pref-CEMAC), “the roundtable enabled announcements to be made. But we cannot be satisfied with announcements, it would absolutely be necessary to reexamine project by project, the announcements made by each donor, establish an implementation schedule, see what the announced financing conditions are ”.

For two days, the members of the technical commission relied on precise economic parameters to consider the implementation of said projects. “This is a game of interests but based on technical data. The heads of state have asked us to go and work on all the technical aspects so that the announcements made in Paris can be translated into reality on the ground “, Professor Michel Cyr Djiena Wembou indicated. The meeting ends on December 30, 2020.

Following the structural reforms decided in 2016 by the six heads of state of CEMAC (Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea), focusing in particular on regional integration, 12 priority integrative projects were selected. Among which the construction of port, road, energy, telecoms infrastructure … for a total cost of CFAF 2,668 billion, including CFAF 464.5 billion collected before the Paris round table, which made it possible to fill the gap of 2,203 billion FCFA requested. More is expected than the completion of projects scheduled between 2021 and 2025.
