Cameroon seals agreements with AfDB to strengthen Electricity connection and Aquaculture with Chad

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development has sealed three loan deals with the African Development Bank to finance some priority projects in the country. Alamine Ousmane Mey who signed the agreements in Yaounde says that, the projects will cement relations with Chad and promote sub regional integration.

They are the Cameroon and Chad Electricity Network Interconnection Project  of 147.85 billion FCFA, the livestock and fish farming value chain development project (PD-CVEP) financed to the tune of 55.10 billion FCFA and the Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Program in the Niger Basin at the cost 4.92 billion FCFA.

The electricity project consists of the construction of a main 225 Kv high-voltage line from Ngaoundéré to Maroua in Cameroon and Ndjamena, the Chadian capital. The construction of 225 Kv high-voltage overhead lines between Maroua (Cameroon), Bongor, Guelendeng and Ndjamena (Chad) is also part of the project. As well as  the construction of associated HV/medium-voltage transformer stations and distribution networks, for rural electrification, along the line corridors.

At the end of the signing ceremony, Economy Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey believes that the deals translates “the commitment of the Head of State, to further consolidate the economic growth of Cameroon through the strengthening of the sub-regional integration process, the improvement of the access of populations to the ‘electrical energy, the preservation of the environment and the development of value chains in the livestock and fish farming sub-sector, which have enormous potential for creating wealth and jobs.”
