Cameroon inaugurates Economic and Social Council Building

The Economic and Social Council (CES) holds its headquarters. Created by Article 85 of the 1972 Constitution and maintained by Article 54 of the 1996 constitutional revision, the Economic and Social Council has had 150 members since 2001.

It is “a consultative assembly representing the main economic, social and cultural activities of the Republic. Its role is, on the one hand, to promote collaboration between them, the different regions and professional categories and, on the other hand, to ensure their participation in the economic, social and cultural policy of the government”, specifies the new Article 1 of Law 2011/011 of July 23, 2011.

Personal representative of the President of the Republic Paul Biya, Luc Ayang proceeded this Thursday, March 6, to the official inauguration of the headquarters of the Economic and Social Council in Yaoundé. Located in the Dragages district, this imposing building now serves as headquarters for the members of the CES.
Launched about 40 years ago, the building is emerging from the ground and will finally have to house the offices of the members of the CES.

The building includes among other things: 12,000 square meters of surface area, 12 levels, 260 offices, a presidential pavilion of 230 square meters, a hemicycle of 1900 square meters and a capacity of 350 seats, a banquet hall of 560 square meters and a capacity of 800 guests, an infirmary, a media library and a printing press. It cost the State of Cameroon 44 billion CFA francs
