Cameroon and EU to map out new 2021-2027 Partnership Agreement

A consultation meeting between the Cameroonian government and the European Union took place on February 4, 2021 in Yaoundé. On February 4, 2021 in Yaoundé, a delegation of the European Union and some members of the government met to finalize the establishment of the new economic partnership that the European Union (EU) is proposing to the Cameroonian government for the period 2021-2027 .

“the European Development Fund (EDF) will give way to a new tool called ” Instrument of neighborhood, development cooperation and international cooperation ” (NDICI) ‘.

The Cameroonian delegation was led by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Alamine Ousmane Mey. There were also several members of the government whose sectors are affected by the support from the EDF. “The objective of this consultation was to take ownership by the government of the 2021-2027 programming of the European Union in connection with the economic development priorities of Cameroon.”

Thus, Ministry of Economy Planning and Regional Development , which represented the government, presented the development priorities contained in the National Development Strategy but also gave the country’s strategic options to be taken into account in the 2021-2027 programming of the EU. “The strategic areas of collaboration to be explored during this period will thus relate, among other things, to green alliances, alliances for science, technology and innovation and digital technology, an alliance for sustainable growth and jobs. ; governance, peace and security and human development.”

For Sébastien Bergeon, Charge d’Affaires, Acting Head of delegation of the European Union: “together we have defined three main priorities which we will then decline over time in the next meetings.”

Finally, “the first priority relates to the issue of sustainable development. All our efforts must go in the direction of having a greener world which will generate jobs and ecology … The second priority is growth and sustainable employment with regard to young people who constitute the future of the whole country. As for the third axis, it concerns cooperation, governance, stabilization, peace and security issues.”
