BMN showcases promising opportunities in Cameroon’s Beverage, Meat and Fish sectors

The Enterprise Upgrading office in Cameroon believes that, the beverage, meat and fish sectors can reap gains in Central Africa if they are well structured. The results of the studies of these two sectors were unveiled  on July 9, 2020 in Douala.

The studies were commissioned by the National Bureau of Upgrading (BMN) of enterprises in Cameroon. They related to the strategic positioning of two sectors: drinks (wine and spirits) and meat, fish on the markets of the Central Africa sub-region. It turns out that these well-structured sectors can allow companies to reap economic benefits that bring growth.

The commissioning of strategic positioning studies for these sectors follows a goal: to give companies the keys to understanding and mastering the opportunities offered by this space. “This will allow us to better focus on the solutions to offer businesses,” says Chantal Elombat Mbedey, Director of BMN.

To take advantage of all present and future opportunities relating to tariff dismantling, “companies and their promoters must be aggressive and inventive,” Antoine Nkollo said. The market research consultant believes that “these companies need to impact people by providing lots of jobs and creating enormous value.”

Studies have identified the causes of the competitiveness deficit and the challenges of financial support necessary for businesses. Moreover, advocates the BMN, it is urgent to strengthen the competitiveness of businesses in the current context of the Covid-19.

The objective is to boost the competitiveness of the private agri-food sector in Cameroon, through a substantial increase in its productivity, in order to make the most of free trade.
