The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, has met with the country’s technical and financial partners. The objective was to assess and accelerate the rehabilitation of key sections of the Douala-Bangui corridor, a vital artery for the national and regional economy.
Given the urgent need to restore this strategic route, the minister insisted on the immediate convening of a technical meeting. This meeting will finalize a precise timetable for updated studies and incorporate two priority technical aspects: strengthening the road structure and modernizing the drainage systems. Particular attention was paid to replacing the nine remaining metal culverts with concrete box culverts, a measure aimed at improving the infrastructure’s durability and strength.

To ensure rigorous monitoring, Mr. Nganou Djoumessi requested the development of a consolidated dashboard. This tool will allow for coordinated management of all project activities. The minister also confirmed that the company CABTE would be responsible for the routine maintenance of the relevant sections.
The Douala-Bangui corridor plays a vital role in economic exchange in Central Africa. It is the main artery for transporting goods between the port of Douala – Cameroon’s economic hub – and the landlocked Central African Republic. Rehabilitating this road should improve traffic flow, reduce logistics costs, and significantly boost economic activity throughout the sub-region.
The commitment of technical and financial partners, including the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the World Bank, is crucial for the realization of this large-scale project. Their reaffirmed support at this meeting is a strong signal in favor of making these investments, which are essential for the development of Cameroon’s infrastructure.
