On May 9, 2025, in Mboro, the Minister of Transport officially launched the commercial operation of Phase 2 of the Port of Kribi. This historic moment marks a decisive step in Cameroon’s ambition to make this port platform a strategic lever for its industrialization and a sub-regional logistics hub. The Mboro port site in Kribi hosted a ceremony of high strategic importance on Friday, May 9, 2025: the commissioning of Phase 2 of the Container Terminal of the Autonomous Port of Kribi.

Chaired by the Minister of Transport, in the presence of numerous prominent national and international personalities, this ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate a major milestone in Cameroon’s economic transformation. Before an audience composed of members of the Government, diplomats, administrative authorities, elected officials, traditional chiefs, representatives of the private sector and economic operators, the Minister of Transport expressed the Government’s gratitude to all the actors who contributed to the realization of this strategic infrastructure.
In his speech, the Minister emphasized that this progress illustrates the vision of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA, who has made the Port of Kribi a priority in the structural transformation of the national economy. He cited the presidential message for the end of 2024, which emphasized the importance of integrated economic zones, particularly that of Kribi, as catalysts for economic recovery. Phase 2 of the Port of Kribi strengthens the operational capacities of this modern infrastructure and meets the expectations of local and international industries. The port is now better equipped to handle growing trade flows, with the recent docking of the giant of the seas, the MSC TÜRKİYE, one of the largest container ships in the world.
The Minister praised the AGL – CMA CGM – CHEC consortium’s commitments, through Kribi Conteneurs Terminal (KCT), the terminal’s concession holder. Their investment and commitment alongside the Cameroonian government, he said, demonstrate the strength of the public-private partnership and renewed confidence in Cameroon’s economic potential. He also expressed the Government’s gratitude to all the administrations and companies involved in the port’s development, while congratulating the Board of Directors and the General Management of the Port Authority of Kribi for the results achieved.
The commissioning of this new phase is part of a dynamic of infrastructure densification and logistical facilitation. Located near the mining deposits of Kribi-Lobé, Bipindi-Grand Zambi, and Mbalam-Nabeba, the port will efficiently supply industries and reduce logistics costs for Cameroonian companies. The Minister emphasized that the Port of Kribi is thus becoming a key player in the country’s economic competitiveness. As a driver of the region’s attractiveness, it attracts investors eager to benefit from the Integrated Industrial Zone and the incentive measures provided for this purpose.
The port’s development cannot be achieved without strong connections to the hinterland. The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to finalizing land infrastructure, including roads and rail links, which are essential for connecting the port to major production and consumption areas in Cameroon and the subregion. Transitional measures will also be implemented quickly to support investors and enhance the site’s attractiveness.
The May 9, 2025 ceremony symbolizes more than just a commercial launch: it embodies Cameroon’s entry into a new phase of its economic development. The Port of Kribi, with its Phase 2 now operational, is poised to become a central pillar of national emergence and a showcase for infrastructure modernization in Central Africa.
