Korea provides water to Four Municipalities in Yaounde

The rural drinking water supply project financed by the Republic of Korea was received on December 16, 2025 in Yaoundé, during a joint ceremony with the unveiling of the future e-government training centers in Cameroon, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cameroon, His Excellency Nam Ki-Wook.

In a symbolic gesture, a miniature monument representing the infrastructure of the drinking water supply project in Cameroon was presented on December 16th to the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cameroon, His Excellency Nam Ki-Wook. This gesture marked the official handover of the rural drinking water supply project. Funded to the tune of 3.6 billion FCFA by the Republic of Korea, this project will enable the construction and rehabilitation of 98 boreholes in the municipalities of Matomb, Massock, Ebebda, and Koutaba, directly benefiting nearly 100,000 residents and contributing to the reduction of waterborne diseases.

This project, whose overall objective is to increase access to drinking water in rural areas through the construction of drinking water supply systems, has been fully completed. Specifically, in the commune of Massock, the project has benefited 773 people across 16 sites; in the commune of Ebebda in the Central Region, 17,695 people have gained access to drinking water at 34 sites; in Matomb, also in the Central Region, 17,695 people have benefited from this project at 45 sites; while in Koutaba in the Western Region, 15,138 people have also benefited from this project at 33 sites.

The future e-government training centers unveiled

The handover ceremony for the rural drinking water supply project was held concurrently with the unveiling of future e-government training centers in Cameroon. This public sector transformation project, also funded by the Republic of Korea to the tune of 4.54 billion FCFA, includes the creation of digital incubation centers at ENAM (National School of Administration and Magistracy), ISMP (Higher Institute of Public Administration and Management), and Sup’TIC (Higher Institute of Information Technology). The project aims to modernize public administration through civil servant training and the development of digital content.

 Approximately 93 billion FCFA mobilized

The ceremony on December 16, 2025, allowed the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) to highlight some of Korea’s significant achievements in Cameroon. It was revealed that this cooperation has benefited priority sectors, including health, information and communication technologies, education, capacity building, agriculture, and rural development. Approximately 93 billion FCFA has been mobilized in the form of both grants and loans. Donations from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) amount to over 38 billion FCFA. These resources enabled the construction of equipment for the Yaoundé Emergency Center, named Curie. They also contributed to the development of a master plan and capacity building for e-governance in Cameroon, the Public Key Infrastructure project, led by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. This project also includes a tool for securing digital data in Cameroon.
