ILO and the SME Promotion to boost Entrepreneurship in Cameroon

This agreement will promote the implementation of the “Start and improve your business” program, which aims to strengthen local businesses. The International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Agency for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (APME) signed a partnership agreement on September 29, 2020 in Yaoundé.

The ILO was represented by François Murangira, Director of the ILO’s Decent Work Support Technical Team and Country Office for Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe; while APME was represented by its Director, Jean Marie Louis Badga.

The ceremony was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises, Social Economy, and Handicrafts, Joseph Tchana.

On the contours of this new partnership, Jean Marie Louis Bagda told the reporter of the state daily Cameroon Tribune published on September 30, 2020 that: “” Start and improve your business ” aims to upgrade local businesses as prescribed in the strategy paper for growth and jobs, and to set standards for SMEs in the North West and South West ”. It is for this reason that the North West and the South West were chosen as host regions for the pilot phase of the project.

The agreement signed on September 29th will enable the ILO to support its partner, “by building the capacities of the agency’s business advisers using the mechanisms of standards, the development of responsible practices. and the promotion of an entrepreneurial spirit, ”explained François Murangira to our colleague.

Thus, this agreement will also allow young job seekers, who have decided to embark on entrepreneurship, to find solutions to the problems they usually encounter, among others: “setting up a business plan , access to credit and non-financial products.”
