Douala Ports Authority and CARPA seal deal to boost Port Expansion

In a strategic approach for the development of port infrastructure, the Autonomous Port of Douala (PAD) signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Support Council for the Realization of Partnership Contracts (CARPA). This collaboration aims to strengthen and expand the capacities of the port of Douala-Bonabéri, an economic hub for Cameroon and the sub-region.

May 30 marked a decisive turning point for the future of port infrastructure in Cameroon with the signing of a framework agreement between the PAD, represented by its Director General, Cyrus NGO’O, and CARPA, under the leadership of its President, Dieudonné BONDOMA YOKONO. This agreement is the result of a common desire to push infrastructure development to a higher level, by pooling efforts and expertise.

The PAD, Cameroon’s natural gateway, is at the heart of an ambitious strategy aimed at improving the existing one and developing new port horizons. With a project to expand the capacity of the Douala-Bonabéri port by 72%, the objective is to increase annual processing to 23 million tonnes, a significant jump compared to 12.155 million tonnes in 2023.

To realize these aspirations, the PAD has launched a significant investment program since 2018, targeting the extension of various terminals and the optimization of their occupancy rate. The agreement with CARPA is a key part of this strategy, making it possible to take advantage of the council’s expertise in carrying out large-scale projects via public-private partnerships.

CARPA, with its mission to support the creation and renewal of infrastructure, is a major ally for the PAD. “Through this framework agreement, we wish to enable the harmonious development of port infrastructure and equipment projects,” declared the Douala port authority.

This cooperation is a strong signal for economic players in the region, announcing an era of modernization and expansion which will benefit the energy sector as well as that of construction, port handling and mining. . It also reflects PAD’s commitment to improving the quality of public service and supporting Cameroon’s economic growth.

The agreement between PAD and CARPA is a step forward towards the realization of large-scale port infrastructure projects. This is a shared vision for sustainable and efficient development of the port of Douala-Bonabéri, guaranteeing its status as a central economic hub for Cameroon and beyond.
