Chad and the World Bank examine current Projects

On February 7, a World Bank portfolio monitoring meeting in Chad was held between a World Bank team, led by its Resident Representative Rasit Pertev, and another from the Ministry of Finance, led by Minister Tahir Hamid Nguilin. The meeting aimed to assess the progress and disbursement of the 21 World Bank-financed projects in the country.

According to Rasit Pertev, the disbursement rate of projects currently stands at 9%, a result that is still insufficient compared to the forecasts of the various management units. “We are only five months away from the end of the fiscal year set for June 30, 2025,” he stressed, emphasizing the urgency of intensifying efforts.

Rasit Pertev also highlighted Chad’s growing engagement in World Bank-financed projects. “Each year, Chad’s engagement and performance in World Bank projects is improving. We have made progress on the disbursement rate, with more than $2.5 billion in commitments covering various sectors, including energy, agriculture, education, health and digitalization,” he explained.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to examine the main obstacles to project implementation, such as the extended delays related to dual review in procurement processes. These procedures continue to lengthen the time taken to approve and sign contracts.

While acknowledging the progress made, Rasit Pertev called on the project management units to intensify their efforts to accelerate the implementation of planned activities before the end of the fiscal year.
