Cameroon to import 465 thousand MT of petroleum products in the last quarter of 2020

The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, has just launched an international call for tenders for this purpose.
Gaston Eloundou Essomba, the Minister of Water and Energy has just launched an international call for tenders for the import of 465,000 metric tons (MT) of petroleum products for the months of October, November and December 2020.

Concretely, Cameroon intends to import 150,000 MT of diesel, 60,000 MT of Jet A1 or kerosene, 15,000 MT of “Fuel Oil 3500”. The tenders will be opened on August 3, 2020 by an Ad hoc committee.

According to the details of Minister Eloundou Essomba, “deliveries of petroleum products to Cameroon are made exclusively by sea. Any other type of delivery is excluded. The products are delivered to Douala or Limbe in the bins of the Cameroonian Petroleum Depots Company or the National Refining Company ”.

Since the end of 2019, “Cameroon has put in place a new mechanism for sustainable supply of the market in order to minimize costs and possible shortfalls that would continue to expose the cash flow of the State. It consists of selecting, by international call for tenders, four traders for a given period who are responsible for making large quantities of petroleum products available in Cameroonian waters in order to sell them to local marketers and importers with as a selection criterion, a more competitive level of premiums ”.

This new mechanism allows, according to Gaston Eloundou Essomba, to achieve budget savings estimated at 150 billion FCFA per year.
