Cameroon Government launches tender call for Limbe thermal power plant

Gaston Eloundou Essomba, the Cameroonian Minister of Water and Energy, launched on May 7, 2020, a call for expressions of interest, for the pre-qualification of partners with a view to carrying out studies, construction and l operation of a gas-fired thermal power plant in Limbe, in the South West region.

According to the official timetable established by the Ministry in charge of Water and Energy, candidates to build this infrastructure, which in principle must be delivered in 2024, have until July 10, 2020 to apply . Designed as a structuring project whose ambition is to improve the supply of electrical energy in the Littoral, West and South-West regions, the future Limbe power plant will have a production capacity of 350MW .

However, this call for tenders launched by the Ministry of Water and Energy somewhat sows confusion in the process of materializing this thermal power plant. Indeed, on April 22, 2014, the State of Cameroon had previously signed a memorandum of understanding with Eranove, an independent producer of electricity and water, for the completion of this project. One year later, in 2015, the independent manufacturer had even launched a call for expressions of interest, with a view to recruiting a design office responsible for carrying out an evaluation of the project. But in the end, it seems that it will not be Eranove who will be in command of this site, for reasons that remain unknown.
