African Development Bank to finance more Road projects in Cameroon

The African Development Bank ‘s portfolio in the road infrastructure sector in Cameroon is approximately 825 billion FCFA (824,800,696,496 FCFA). The AfDB is thus positioned as the country’s leading technical partner in this area. Taking part in the recent Transport Forum, Emmanuel Ngannou Djoumessi , Minister of Public Works, pleaded with the Bank for an increase in its investments in Cameroon, during the second plenary session of the proceedings, under the theme “Sustainable road, development and logistics maintenance”.

The requested extension should allow for road developments in the Eastern region, among others. In particular, the Batouri-Yokadouma-Moloundou-Congo axis. For this project, the studies are already ready, all that is missing is funding, indicates the Minister .

“Our wish is to obtain more financial support from the AfDB for the territorial development of the Eastern region. We already have these studies ready, we are just waiting for funding. This development will allow us to complete this important Batouri-Yokadouma-Moloundou-Congo road axis,” he said.

The supplement will also make it possible to complete the Mamfe-Akwaya, Akwaya-Nigeria border route. Compared to other technical partners, the AfDB alone captures 54% of the overall financial volume of financial support in road infrastructure projects.

Due to its strategic position, Cameroon serves several countries in the landlocked sub-region. Being practically at the center, it is working to improve corridors to facilitate regional integration. To date, Cameroon has 9 active projects and programs in the road infrastructure sector, financed by the AfDB.

Among them, the Transport Facilitation Program on the Bamenda-MamfeEkok/Mfum-Abakaliki-Enugu corridor, the Ketta – Djoum road development and transport facilitation project on the Yaoundé – Brazzaville corridor , Phase 2, the Transport Sector Support Program, Phase 1: Development of the Batchenga – Ntui – Yoko – Léna– Tibati-Ngatt-Ngaoundéré road, the Transport Sector Support Program, Phase 2: Rehabilitation of the Yaoundé – Bafoussam-Babadjou road and development of the GrandZambi – Kribi and Bogo – Pouss roads.

We also note the Ring Road, the construction of the bridge over the Logone River between Cameroon-Chad, the Project (PARZIK), in particular the rehabilitation of the Edéa-Kribi and Lolabé-Campo roads.

In the Far North , there is the rehabilitation of the Maroua-Moutourwa and Magada-Maroua roads as well as the construction of the bypass of the city of Maroua and the development project of the Kumba-Mamfé road, in the South-West.
