Cameroonian start-up House Innovation creates a self-diagnostic application for Coronavirus

Louis-Ekani, CEO House-Innovation

If the Cameroonian authorities give their agreement, the “SOS-Covid” mobile application from the Cameroonian start-up House Innovation could be used in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“SOS-Covid”, the House Innovation  start-up explains, is “an application which solves not only the problem of non-information of the population and self-diagnosis of people, but also the rapid and effective detection of the appearance new cases can thus be taken care of, as quickly as possible, thanks to the geo-location system integrated into the application ”.

Thanks to the application’s “test” functionality, the patient is subjected to a questionnaire based on the symptoms experienced. The responses allow the status of the latter to be assessed. For example: “Do you think you have or have had a fever in the past few days (chills, sweating)? “; “In the past few days, do you have a cough or an increase in your usual cough? “; “In the past few days, have you noticed a sharp decrease or loss in your taste or smell? », Etc. After answering this series of questions, a probability result for having the coronavirus is displayed. Some advice is then given to the user.

Other features of the mobile application include, among other things, statistics (all Covid-19 cases recorded worldwide, the number of victims by state as well as the number of people recovered from the epidemic); a toll-free number (a button located below the test result allows, when clicked, to automatically launch a call to health emergencies in charge of managing the epidemiological crisis); awareness-raising (this section offers a range of measures to combat the spread of the epidemic as well as practical videos), etc. House Innovation adds that its application has added value, namely the ability to map areas of infection in order to limit travel to or from these areas.
