The information is from the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, who revealed it during a press conference organized in concert with the Minister of Communication René Emmanuel Sadi, Wednesday May 13, 2020.
It’s undeniable ! The restrictive measures decreed by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, to try to stem the spread of the Coronavirus on the national territory, had unfortunate consequences on the economy of the country.
Some observers had warned of the socio-political-economic impact of the softening of the measures against the Covid-19, decided in early May by the Head of the State, was motivated by the desire to save our economy which in only two months of application of the above measures, is in very poor condition.
Most of the time, however, these projections were not based on any figures, which could accurately measure the financial impact of the Coronavirus on the national economy. But in the light of the latest information made available to the public by the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, during a press briefing organized on Wednesday May 13, 2020, it would seem that this is far from being fanciful.
In fact, according to the Member of the government, the financial impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the national economy stands at the moment at CFAF 800 billion; a deficit that includes customs revenue and government charges.
“800 billion FCFA is the financial impact of the pandemic on the Cameroonian economy. At the press conference tonight (May 13, 2020), the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze indicates that this assessment includes customs revenue and state charges “, can be read on the Twitter account of the CRTV , Cameroon’s State media.
