Congo and UNDP to strengthen community involvement in SDGs

The Minister of Planning, Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas, and the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Maleye Diop, approved, on July 9 in Brazzaville, an annual work plan intended to involve communities local authorities in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The new roadmap will be implemented over the next six months, thanks to UNDP funding of $ 240,000, or about 140 million CFA francs. This envelope will allow the Republic of Congo to implement the activities related to the project to support the localization of the SDGs and to strengthen the capacities of Congolese executives in monitoring the planning, programming, budgeting and monitoring chain. and evaluation of development projects.

According to the two parties, the work plan will facilitate the assessment of the efforts made to achieve the results of the 2018-2022 National Development Plan and the SDGs, as well as the acceleration of the reforms undertaken in the area of ​​decentralization. and economic governance, while promoting transparency and the participation of civil society in the monitoring of national development policy.

The second phase of the work plan approved on Thursday will focus on local communities and their participation in the implementation of the SDGs.

“We will continue to strengthen the capacities of the actors, both at national and local level, so that monitoring is done with objectively verifiable indicators. This work plan will be implemented in the next six months despite the difficulties linked to the Covid-19 health crisis which is disrupting our activities, ”assured the UNDP resident representative, Maleye Diop.

It should be noted that this partnership agreement follows a request from the Congolese government expressed by the Minister of Planning, during a meeting last year with the boss of UNDP. « It is about ensuring that local communities can have a plan for implementing the SDGs. The signing of this annual work plan confirms UNDP’s commitment to helping our country, « said Ingrid Olga Ghislaine Ebouka-Babackas.
